The Clonard takes its name from the neighborhood where owner Kieran spent his early years, just steps away from the storied Falls Road, with the Black Mountain as its backdrop. Known for its strong sense of community, this working-class Catholic area is home to the Clonard Monastery built in 1897. The monastery played a pivotal role in secret negotiations that helped shape the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, which was a key moment in Northern Ireland's peace process. The Clonard neighborhood also witnessed significant events during the Troubles, particularly on August 14, 1969, when loyalists from the Shankill Road launched attacks on Catholic-owned homes. Many residents were forced to flee as houses, including those on Bombay Street, were burned to the ground.Bringing the spirit of his hometown to Williamsburg Brooklyn, Kieran opened The Clonard as a tribute to the resilience of the community that shaped him. Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, this Irish pub blends authentic Irish history with the vibrant energy of New York, offering a warm, welcoming space where friends and neighbors can come together-- just as they did back home.
Our menu is packed with Comfort food favorites, all served with a touch of Irish flair. From crispy fries to juicy burgers, loaded nachos, and more, we’re here to satisfy your cravings. And, of course, no Irish-inspired spot is complete without a great pint of Guinness—we’ve been honored as one of the top 10 places in NYC to enjoy a perfectly poured Guinness draft. Our restaurant isn’t just about the food and drinks, though; it’s about the experience. We’ve created a space where the laid-back vibes of Brooklyn meet the warmth and hospitality of an Irish pub. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a long evening with friends, we hope you’ll feel at home. At our core, we’re about bringing people together—just like the pubs in Clonard did all those years ago. So come on in, grab a bite, raise a glass, and become a part of our ever-growing community.
